[MEGATHREAD] DRM-Free Media

Post by ShinRyusei »

I've noticed in the Discord that people fresh off streaming are lost and confused as to how you procure media without pirating or hacky conversion tools, especially music, so I figured I'd I'd make this thread. This not only offers options on storefronts, but services to help you break away from big tech as a whole!

Music:

https://us.7digital.com/ specializes in mainstream music. Surprising Variety, with many audio formats to pick from.

https://www.hdtracks.com/ is the same as 7Digital.

https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/shop focuses purely on the high-def, for audiophiles such as myself.

https://bandcamp.com is the tunes store almost everyone knows it. Mostly indie, with so many great hidden gems.

https://www.iomoio.com/ is for those who don't give a fluff about audio fidelity, and rock MP3s exclusively! It has a huge variety of tunes, even some of JP darlings.

https://bleep.com/ is the highly successful online music store for UK darling Warp Records.

https://www.beatport.com/ is an online music store specializing in electronic music and culture.

https://ototoy.jp/top/ features Japanese Music.

eBooks:

http://www.leanpub.com/ is used by authors and publishers to publish amazing in-progress and completed books.

http://www.lulu.com/shop is one of the largest ebook self-publishing stores on the web.

https://denpa.pub features DRM-Free manga.

Audiobooks:

https://libro.fm offers an amazing selection of audiobooks, and an amazing subscription to help you break away from Audible!

https://www.downpour.com is similar to libro.fm, be sure to check it out!

This is a huge WIP. Working on this on my phone is exhausting, so I'll edit it slowly. Until then, feel free to visit https://www.defectivebydesign.org, of which this thread is partially based on.
A blob in space who's interested in the indie web, and intentional use of technology. Soon-to-be owner of the Light Phone 3. I hope we can have a good time! :D
