I liked the channel in the Discord where people would post ideas about ‘going light’ or living minimally. There were good suggestions there about books to read or videos to watch about big tech and addiction.
Maybe something like that here so you don’t have to scroll through pages to find suggestions?
I’m also not sure why you consolidated the EDC/Photography into the lounge section. If the forum gets popular, I have a feeling that some of those pages may become those 99 page behemoths that you have to scroll like Discord is now. I always hated on Crackberry forums where I was looking for that one post I read that one time and needed to go through tons of pages to find it because the section was too vague and the posted topic became a free for all. I think this also goes along the lines of the light ethos to stop the scrolling.
I think the whole point of forums was to have a place where things are easier to find for the forum’s section and are less doom scrolly. Think about what is less Doomscrolly:
Community connections > Lounge > (topic post starts here, so there could be pages upon pages) Minimalist lifestyle > Check out this book about brainrot (this could turn into pages of scrolling through posts)
Vs
Community connection > minimalist lifestyle > (topic post starts here, so there could be pages upon pages) check out this book about brainrot (this would be a dedicated topic discussing this book)
Just an idea …

I like this idea too, I'm sure Ronan will add it when he takes a gander.I liked the channel in the Discord where people would post ideas about ‘going light’ or living minimally. There were good suggestions there about books to read or videos to watch about big tech and addiction.
This is actually how it was before, but I suggested merging them. I just thought it wouldn't make much sense to have them as seperate sections, and in my mind it resembled the Reddit flair system, which I wanted to avoid. This is my first time actually running and creating a forum. I'm going off what I've seen, so your method might work out better! It's something that the staff will consider. We can make polls, try out both methods, and overall see what works best as the community gets bigger. Thank you for the input.I’m also not sure why you consolidated the EDC/Photography into the lounge section. Edit: It's also possible to have both. I often see both megathreads and smaller, individual threads in forums. Just another option to consider.

Oh, I thought I remember that ‘Lounge’, ‘photography’, and ‘EDC’ were separate sections.
I guess I felt like the Light community was into photography in general, so a separate photography section to share different ‘posts’ or ‘topics’ would make sense.
For example:
Currently with photography under ‘lounge’, you’re essentially creating a ‘photography mega thread’ where people just post massive amounts of photos. Say someone is looking for a specific user’s photo, or a photo taken with LP3, you kinda have to scroll through pages and pages of things you don’t need to look at.
Or maybe I forgot how forums worked. Haha.

No, that makes sense actually! Thanks a bunch. I think we could have those sections, but have certain threads stickied? Like a "Shot On Light Phone" thread, and a "Vintage Camera" thread, etc. Then others could make a bunch of mini threads pertaining to the topics at hand.
Edit: The only issue to me then, is what actually deserves a section? Photography seems fine, but EDC, how many individual posts does one need to make about an EDC, other than just posting it to the thread? Could you provide any examples? Just thinking here.

Another solution would be to recreate this photography forum and monitor its activity. If it doesn't generate much discussion, we can merge it into the general discussion forum ?

Sounds great! Just move the megathread over there, and we should be good to go.ronan wrote: Sun Mar 30, 2025 10:00 pm Another solution would be to recreate this photography forum and monitor its activity. If it doesn't generate much discussion, we can merge it into the general discussion forum?
