I'm happy to hear! For some reason, I'm super passionate about building this. Some part of me wants to stop, but I keep coming up with new ideas! No issue at all, I'm happy to see people like you getting involved in the creation of this community!
Makes sense. I think photography and EDC would be more suited to megathreads stickied in the lounge section. As for a good section idea, I think a technology section would be cool. We talk enough about technology and similar devices, that having dedicated, stickied threads for them in such a section would be a good idea. Not that you have to create them, but some good examples are: The Daylight Computer, Minimal Phone, Playdate, Analogue Pocket, Mudita Kompact, Ereaders, etc. It has enough unique topic potential that it warrants its own section.Right, as the community is small now it does not make sense to have too many different categories. I deleted the EDCs and photography ones and added a New Members category.
That makes perfect sense. I think some auto compression and resize tools could help for both uploads and avatars, instead of screaming at the person they need to resize it. Perhaps that's something we can look into? There really should be no reason to go above 10 MBs now that you say it.I'm hosting it on an OVH VPS with 50 Gio of storage. Depending on how this community grows it could be limiting. For now I can bump the limit to 10 MBs, I feel like this is plenty for most images. Let's see how this goes. If users need more than that let me know, I'll double think about it. For information the VPS costs me 11 euros per month, additional storage is around 0,0001 € Go/hour. So not that expensive I guess.
Also, we should look into having a community donation pool as the server gets bigger. It seems to work for other communities of this nature I've seen. Maybe using something like Liberapay or Open Collective? They seem to fit the ethos of the community pretty well.
Anywho, we should also look into more buttons? To make these forum tricks easier for new folk. Everyone's switched to markdown, and it's easy to see why. Using HTML for basic stuff is pretty exhausting, and I only have it memorized because I'm learning webdev. Not sure how to go about it, but it's definitely something to look into. But tbh, that might be solved with one of the newer themes, or something. Who knows. That's all I have for now... until the edit nation attacks.
Edit: Perhaps a sort of "level" system would be good. Not for gamification or status or anything stupid like that, but for community reliability. If I, who would probably have something like a V.I.P. role, were to say something, it'd give immediate credence to my words. This may not be as important as I think, though. I'm just used to it, and I always thought it was a good system.
Edit 2: Can you remove the file name under the images? It looks ugly, and cluttered. Also, are the view counts for them removable as well? They seem unnecessary for a community like this.
Edit 3: I just noticed this strange issue where avatars stretch on their page. Seth's did this too, before it settled down. Any idea why this happens?
