This was something you could do with the LP2, except it was so weak that the android layer was barely functional. The chromium browser is pretty crazy, but yeah the Light Phone has always been like that. The LP3's higher spec parts just make it more obvious/apparent.

Even if they built a super minimal custom ROM, it wouldn't stop people from rooting it and doing all this stuff, so all of that changes nothing for me. It's usually way too much of a hassle to switch back and forth for it to tempt me.

No it seems if you activate Gestures in Android, it will let you just swipe up to recent apps and switch between LightOS and other android apps seamlessly.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I've decided to cancel my Light Phone pre-order today. This wasn't an easy decision, as I truly admire Joe and the team, and think the hardware design is absolutely beautiful.

However, after much reflection on the recent discoveries about the software implementation, I've realized that Light Phone might not be the right fit for what I'm personally looking for in a minimalist device. As I've shared in previous discussions, my definition of minimalism extends beyond the user interface to the core system architecture.

I'll be maintaining this forum for now, as I think it's important to have a space for the community to discuss all aspects of the Light Phone experience - both positive and critical. If anyone would like to take over moderation + administration duties in the future, I'd be happy to hand over the reins.

I genuinely wish the Light Phone team and all of you the best, and I hope the LP3 brings you exactly what you're looking for in a digital companion ! :D

Aye Aye Captain.

I'll be signing off too. I received my lightphone 3 so I have no need to continue surfing the dumbphone web. I'm going to enjoy my ignorant bliss of going light as I have the past few years. It's always felt like a complete minimalist experience to its core so the recent conversation just has not changed that for me, plus they're patching a lot of the ways to get to core android out soon. Anyways I'm happy. Best to you and everyone going light, it's worth it.

I have also cancelled my order. Not so much because of the whole easy sideloading thing, since I was excited to start getting into Android Development and make my own offline minimal apps and look into building a launcher in the future. But more so because of their warranty & return policy.
